About the museum
The Temple of Aphaia is a Doric peripteral temple built around 500–490 BC on a pine-covered hill on Aegina. Of the 32 original columns of the peristyle, 24 are still standing. The pediment sculptures were removed in 1811 and are now in the Glyptothek in Munich.
The temple, the temple of Poseidon at Sounion and the Hephaisteion in Athens form an imaginary triangle within Attica. The Scientific Collection also operates on the archaeological site, with separate opening hours.
The site is at Mesagros and is under the Ephorate of Antiquities of Piraeus and the Islands. One ticket is valid for the archaeological site and for the Scientific Collection.
