About the museum
The museum is housed in the studio of the sculptor Christos Kapralos in Plakakia on Aegina, where the artist worked and lived on the island. It opened to the public in 1995, two years after his death, with six rooms and open-air spaces.
In 2006 the Christos and Soula Kapralos Foundation passed, by presidential decree, to the National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum, and since then the museum has operated as a branch of it.
Wood, poros and marble sculptures, paintings produced on Aegina and smaller works in clay and bronze are displayed in the rooms and in the surrounding area. Particularly notable is the plaster cast of the “Monument of the Battle of Pindos” (1952–1956), a relief about forty metres long, as well as the “Parody from the pediment of Olympia” (1971–1972), a composition of eucalyptus trunks.
