About the museum
At Mikro Elos, at the site of Brexiza in Nea Makri, lay the sanctuary of the Egyptian gods. It was founded by the orator and sophist Herodes Atticus, in imitation of the corresponding sanctuary in the Nile Delta. Herodes owned a villa and an estate at Marathon, which in the 2nd century AD was adorned with busts of himself and his pupils.
In the sanctuary stood statues of over-life size in the Egyptian style, which are now displayed in the Archaeological Museum of Marathon. The archaeological site of Brexiza has its own ticket, separate from the ticket for the museum and for the Tumulus of the Athenians.
