About the museum
At Emporio, with panoramic views of the Asia Minor coast, Samos and Ikaria, the first Ionians built, in the 8th–7th century BC, a settlement with a fortified acropolis, a temple of the goddess Athena and a megaron, that is, the palace of the chief.
Outside the acropolis, on the steep slope, extend the ruins of the main settlement. It comprised about 50 dwellings, from single-room houses to two-storey buildings for the wealthiest inhabitants.
