About the museum
Philip II of Macedon founded the city of Petres on a hill at an altitude of 720 metres, in a position that allowed the surveillance of the borders between Upper and Lower Macedonia. The city flourished after the middle of the 2nd century BC, when the Egnatia Odos passed nearby, and was destroyed a century later, when Western Macedonia became a battlefield between Caesar and Pompey.
The archaeological site lies within the lush green Macedonian landscape. The visitable part features the Fountain Quarter and the South Platform.
