About the museum
In 1979 an octagonal building was erected on the spot where the mammoth skeleton was found, primarily to protect the find rather than to create an aesthetically designed museum space. The skeleton remains exactly where it was found and impresses with its size and excellent state of preservation.
The museum is one kilometre from the village of Perdikka, on the road to Pentavryso, and 33 kilometres from Kozani. It is also known as the Anthropological and Palaeontological Museum of Ptolemaida.
