About the museum
Sesklo was the dominant Neolithic settlement of Thessaly. It had everything a settlement needed to last: drinking water, cultivable land and a short distance from the sea. It was built on deep seasonal streams, near flat and fertile land, and had access to local trade.
According to the archaeologist Christos Tsountas, the name of the settlement derives from the plant seskoulo, which still grows wild around the archaeological site.
