About the museum
A short distance from the settlement of Batsi, in the area of Aprovatou, lies the archaeological site of Ypsili, an important fortified settlement dating from the Geometric period to the beginning of the Classical era. The settlement was uncovered in the early 1980s. It had a strong wall with later repairs and reinforcements, a dense urban layout and a sanctuary, possibly dedicated to Demeter, which functioned almost until the middle of the 5th century BC.
The research has provided important evidence for the Geometric and Archaic periods in the Cyclades, as well as various movable finds for the Aegean civilisation of those periods.
