About the museum
The museum was founded by the Municipality of Ptolemaida and has been housed since 2006 in the building on 28th October Street, to accommodate the palaeontological finds of Eordaia. Previously it operated as the Anthropological and Folklore Museum.
The palaeontological collection consists mainly of vertebrate bones, such as elephant tusks, a hippopotamus jaw, and remains of horses and cattle, dating mainly from one to three million years ago. There is also an archaeological collection of 78 objects and a folklore collection with costumes from Western Macedonia, tools and textiles.
The art gallery houses works by Greek painters, among them a donation of 100 paintings and the archive of Pavlos Moschidis. Outdoors, a historic tracked vehicle from the 1930s is displayed under a canopy.
