About the museum
The Folklore Museum of Chalkis was founded in 1981 by the Society for Euboean Studies and the Municipality of Chalkis. It is housed in three halls in a section of the city's medieval wall, in the area of the historic Negroponte castle.
The collection includes more than 1,200 objects, handmade items and vessels of everyday life from past times. The first hall displays costumes from northern, central and southern Euboea and from Skyros. The second hall recreates a neighbourhood of Chalkis with a 20th-century urban house, while the third presents scenes of rural life with the farmer, the shepherd, the beekeeper and the weaver.
