About the museum
The Museum of Folk Art of Patras was founded in 1977 by the Cultural Centre of Patras and was initially housed in a neoclassical building in the centre and later in the Skagiopouleio. In 2012 the collection was donated by the Cultural Centre to the Municipality of Patras, and from 2013 it was presented in the Hansen halls of the Old Municipal Hospital, in Plateia Koryllon in Ano Poli.
The collection covers rural life, with cultivation of the land and baking, viticulture and the production of wine and tsipouro, animal husbandry, household objects, the processing of wool and weaving on the traditional loom. It also presents urban trades and workshops, such as weaving, felt-making, candle-making, shoemaking, rope-making and printing.
The museum closed in 2023 because of the renovation of the building in which it was housed.
