About the museum
The Asia Minor Civilisation Museum of New Prokopi was inaugurated in 2018. It was founded by the Board of the Holy Pilgrimage of Saint John the Russian, mainly funded by ESPA, with a financial contribution from the Pilgrimage.
It is housed in a two-storey building next to the holy church, where the pilgrims’ guesthouse once operated. The museum keeps heirlooms of ecclesiastical and folklore interest that the refugees from Prokopi in Cappadocia brought with them after 1922.
The relics of Saint John the Russian were transferred to New Prokopi in Evia in 1925 and remain an important place of pilgrimage to this day, so the museum is directly linked with the history of the refugees of the area.
