About the museum
The Archaeological Collection of Oreoi is housed in a space belonging to the Municipality of Istiaia–Aidipsos, next to the Bull of Oreoi, the largest votive sculpture found on the Greek mainland in terms of volume and weight. It is a stop on the archaeological walk along the coastal road. In July 2020 the exhibition was reorganised and new bases were built.
The hall houses grave stelae and reliefs from two cemeteries in the wider area, at the sites Mnimata and Kolona. Outstanding are a large funerary relief of the early 4th century BC, a double inscription on the restoration of the temple of Artemis Proseoa at the Artemision, an archaic herm stele from the entrance to the castle of Oreoi, a funerary monument in the form of a lion, a stele of a young child with a dog, and a Roman copy of the trunk of a discus thrower.
