About the museum
The eye-of-God motif on the high altar of the Alsóváros church, with rays spreading out from the centre, became a decorative element on many houses in the district. The triangular gable of the sunburst houses symbolises the Holy Trinity for religious families.
The heritage house operates in a renovated sunburst house and also preserves the memory of Bálint Sándor (1904–1980). Bálint Sándor, a university professor born in Alsóváros, was an outstanding researcher of Szeged's ethnography and cultural history, who studied the religious customs and beliefs of people living in the city and its surroundings. The permanent exhibition presents the folk life of Alsóváros and the Southern Great Plain, including everyday objects from the period between the two world wars. Folk customs linked to the holidays are presented in programmes of a unique atmosphere.
