About the museum
The Bauhaus-style building, known since the 1930s as Bagolyvár (Owl Castle), stands below Szentháromság tér (Holy Trinity Square), on the steep bank of the Sugovica. It was once the home of the painter, museum founder and local history enthusiast Miskolczy Ferenc (1899–1994). During his lifetime, the painter gave the property to the town of Baja, together with part of his private collection, on the condition that it be open to visitors as a memorial house after his death. The exhibition space presents the particularities of Baja's urban and art history between 1920 and 1990, the everyday life and characteristic personalities of this Bácska bourgeois town. It also gives an insight into Miskolczy Ferenc's work as a founder and enricher of public collections, and into the documentation of the cultural heritage of Bácska and Sárköz.
