About the museum
The Bakonybél Folk House is one of the most beautiful examples of Bakony folk architecture. The complex of two residential houses and a so-called torkos barn (torkospajta), which differs from the traditional type, was built in the mid-19th century by the prosperous Hasprai family, who traded in wooden tools. In 1895, Hasprai István added a shop to the front of the smaller house; this is indicated by the year and the monogram H. I. on the gable. The two houses are connected by a vaulted gateway.
The furnishings of the street room of the larger house reflect the bourgeois tastes of the late 1920s, while those of the smaller house recall the living conditions of the parents at the end of the 19th century. In the former stable, the history of traditional woodworking and its tools are on display; this presentation is unique among exhibitions on peasant culture in Veszprém County. In the former shop space of the smaller house, the history of the Bakony Indian game, more than fifty years old and associated with the name of Cseh Tamás, is presented.
The lady of the house accompanies every visitor; the guided tour lasts 35 to 45 minutes.
