About the museum
The Bakony Forest House stands in the centre of Bakonybél, in the granary of the 18th-century economic complex of the Zirc Abbey, which has been modernly renovated. The nature conservation and forestry exhibition presents the special natural values of the Magas-Bakony Landscape Protection Area.
The ground-floor hall introduces the geological past of the mountains, their main rocks, minerals and interesting geological phenomena; photographs show the most important plant communities and protected plants. It also displays the measuring and mapping instruments once used by forest planners. The upper-floor hall introduces the crafts of forester, hunter and woodworker; an atmospheric diorama shows the wild animals of the Bakony, while the paintings of the naive painter Dani Pál depict the wild and romantic world of the former Bakony forest. The forest warden's room recalls the training of forest engineers in Selmecbánya and the life work of the forest warden Dobó Jenő of Farkasgyepű.
