About the museum
The Bechtold István Természetvédelmi Látogatóközpont (Bechtold István Nature Conservation Visitor Centre) is the presentation venue of the Kőszegi Tájvédelmi Körzet (Kőszeg Landscape Protection Area), run by the Őrségi Nemzeti Park Igazgatóság (Őrség National Park Directorate). The two-storey centre received the Év ökoturisztikai létesítménye (Eco-tourism Facility of the Year) award in the visitor-centre category in 2010.
The lower level presents the plant and animal life, fungi and geology of the Kőszeg Mountains and the foothill meadows, as well as the work of local nature researchers. An interactive bird exhibition can be seen in the gallery corridor. The building also houses a nature-conservation gift shop, and the multi-purpose conference room can be hired for events.
