About the museum
The Fekete Szerecseny pharmacy operated in the building at Rákóczi út 3. The building was renovated between 1984 and 1988 based on its 17th- to 19th-century condition, and the exhibition and the specialist library opened in 1988. This is Kőszeg's second pharmacy museum, alongside the Arany Egyszarvú (Golden Unicorn) pharmacy.
On the ground floor, visitors pass from the Biedermeier officina (dispensary) of around 1850–1860 into a 17th-century pharmacy interior and the rooms of the pharmacy history exhibition. The upper floor houses the Gyógyszerészettörténeti Könyvtár (Pharmaceutical History Library), which operates in the neo-Renaissance officina and gallery storeroom of the Megváltó (Redeemer) pharmacy in Körmend, founded in 1895.
The house is an integral part of the Kőszeg Pharmacy Museum, which presents the rich memorabilia of pharmacy in Vas County. It cannot compete in spectacle with the Arany Egyszarvú pharmacy and its Jesuit-style furniture, but its professional value is outstanding because of its age, its interiors and its equipment.
