About the museum

The Busóudvar aims to give visitors arriving in the town a taste of the Mohács busójárás, which has been placed on the World Heritage List, throughout the year, and to present the work of the local craftspeople linked to the event. The community space was handed over in autumn 2013.

The main attraction is the permanent exhibition, in which seventy dressed busó figures, the props of the event – the devil’s wheel, cannon and boat –, the coffin symbolising winter and the busó bonfire can be seen, accompanied by Croatian–Šokac music. The tradition can be followed from the work of the old Mohács mask carvers to the masks of carvers still working today; the walls are decorated with photographs taken in the early 21st century. A temporary exhibition is on the upper floor.

The complex also houses a restaurant and café, two craft shops, demonstration workshops and an information point; in the reception area a film about the busójárás can be watched.
