About the museum
The collection is named after Butyka Béla (1901–1972), a Reformed school teacher. His object collection, made in the 1950s and 1960s, provided a significant part of the material, and the establishment of the institution was made possible through his efforts.
The permanent exhibition, put together by renowned experts, is shown in three of the five exhibition rooms. In two rooms, visitors can follow the history of the town and its surroundings from prehistory to the late 19th century; in the third, they can get to know the material culture of the period from the mid-18th to the mid-20th century.
The ethnographic material includes memorabilia of animal husbandry, farming and household tools and utensils, well-known pieces of costume, and memorabilia of some crafts: gingerbread baking, farriery and pottery.
