About the museum
Construction of the Kehida manor (kúria) began in the 1740s; Hertelendy Gábor is named as the builder. Deák Ferenc moved here in 1808, at the age of five, and regarded it as his home and refuge for 46 years. He died here in an armchair on 28 January 1876. The building was renovated for the 200th anniversary of Deák's birth.
The permanent exhibition “A haza bölcse, Zala büszkesége” (“Sage of the Homeland, Pride of Zala”) presents Deák's life and career across several rooms: the bedroom covers his first 45 years; the study has Biedermeier furnishings, his books and his pipe collection; the living room recalls his period as Minister of Justice in 1848 and the passive resistance; the guest room has a reconstruction of his Pest flat; and the guest salon presents his career after 1849, the Diet of 1861, the Compromise and his last armchair.
