About the museum
The Endrőd Folk House was built in 1862 as a building of listed-monument character; the wooden posts of its porch were floated down the Körös from Transylvania at the time. The house was built by Hunya István, a large-scale farmer of Endrőd. Its façade has a plaster-decorated gable with a date, a belt cornice and a porch with brick columns, restored in 1976. The house type is the so-called sorompós ház (barrier house), named after the barrier-like lath fence in front of the house. Its furnishings present the living conditions of Endrőd peasant life at the end of the 19th century.
The local history collection is housed in the neighbouring building. The municipality bought this building, which had served as a residence until then, in 2000; in the 1930s it had been converted from a farmstead into a dwelling and partly into a tailor's workshop. The rooms open into one another, which makes them suitable for exhibitions. Here, an archaeological exhibition titled “Bepillantás Endrőd régmúltjába” (“A Glimpse into Endrőd's Distant Past”) and a local history exhibition titled “Csizmadiák és cipészek Endrődön a XIX–XX. század fordulóján” (“Bootmakers and Shoemakers in Endrőd at the Turn of the 19th and 20th Centuries”) are on display. The folk house also offers children's and group museum education programmes.
