About the museum
The Peresi Tájház in Mezőtúr, also known as the visitor centre of the Körös Valley Nature Conservation Area, stands beside the Peresi-holtág, one of the dead arms of the Hármas-Körös. The building was constructed in 1904 as a pumping station. It has two rooms, the boiler house and the engine room. The 27-metre-high chimney was demolished in 1970.
The equipment of the engine room, with the steam engine and the circular pump, can be seen in its original condition. In the boiler house an exhibition has been set up presenting the wildlife of the Körös region, showing not only the plants and animals living today but also those that have died out.
