About the museum
The first version of this two-storey listed building was built in 1782 on the lakeside estate at Arács of Count Károly Esterházy, a bishop, to plans by the estate architect Mihály Pauly, commissioned by Count Kázmér Esterházy. The ground floor of the summer residence, which stands at the highest point of the Savanyúvíz spa and has been rebuilt several times, preserves the layout of the 1782 small castle; the upper floor recalls the atmosphere of the 1830s extension. The renovated building has been open as a cultural and community space since May 2024.
The visitor centre's interactive exhibition “Summer on Lake Balaton – Bathing Season in Füred 1825–1914” presents the bathing culture of the Reform Era and the Compromise period: warm and cold bathing, steamboats and sailing on the lake, accommodation, the mineral water and healing, and social life, including the Anna Balls in Füred.
