About the museum
The collection was founded in 1983 to preserve, scientifically process and present the artistic treasures of the Hungarian Greek Catholic Church; its foundation is associated with the name of Timkó Imre, Bishop of the Hajdúdorog Eparchy. Its first head, Nagymihályi Géza, a Greek Catholic priest and art historian, saved many icons lying forgotten in attics and other places. The first exhibition opened in 1985. The collection is in the bishop’s building of the Nyíregyháza Greek Catholic eparchy and can be reached from the courtyard.
