About the museum
The Kállay Collection was founded by Dr. Kállay Kristóf (1916–2006), the eldest son of Prime Minister Kállay Miklós, who donated his private collection, assembled during his emigration in Rome, to his home town in 1989–90. The collection opened in Nyíregyháza on 10 March 1993 in the Nyírvíz Palota at Széchenyi utca 1. On 9 November 2007 it became a museum institution.
In 2020 the collection was re-established in renewed form in the Kállay-kúria (Kállay mansion) at Bessenyei tér 15. The permanent exhibition consists of three thematic units: the collection of orders and decorations, the history of the Kállay family and the Maltese room. Alongside them, a separate town history exhibition presents the past of Nyíregyháza.
Temporary exhibitions also open in the building, and group visitors can request a guided tour in Hungarian or English.
