About the museum
The Mecset utca türbe is an Ottoman-era building; the sources date the start of construction to 1543. Gül Baba was a 16th-century Bektashi dervish, and the türbe preserves his resting place. The building was developed on the basis of plans by Wagner János and Mányi István and is under heritage protection.
The türbe, the garden belonging to it and the cultural centre are run by the Gül Baba Türbéje Örökségvédő Alapítvány (Gül Baba Türbéje Heritage Foundation), which the Hungarian state founded in 2017. After renovation, the türbe reopened to visitors in 2018, together with the museum attached to it.
The permanent exhibition presents the life of the 16th-century Bektashi dervish, the history of the türbe and everyday life in Hungary during the Ottoman occupation. The complex includes a rose garden, a hanging garden, a café and a space for temporary exhibitions, with a panorama over the Rózsadomb.
