Gyömrői Tájház

The village heritage house (tájház) in the Főszög district of Gyömrő: a rammed-earth Great Plain farmhouse from the 1840s, with furnished living rooms and local history exhibitions.

Opening hoursAdmission HUF 1,200

About the museum

The rammed-earth farmhouse from the 1840s on Gróf Teleki utca 46 in the Főszög district of Gyömrő is the town’s only public museum site. The building was once the home of István Rakó and Julianna Mikes; with donations from locals and the work of the id. Pál Mihály Kör (Pál Mihály Circle), it was given new life as a village heritage house in 1983.

The five-compartment Great Plain house’s entrance hall, kitchen and rooms faithfully show everyday peasant life up to the 1930s. In the former pantry and stable, local history exhibitions have been set up with the ethnographic expertise of Bajnóczy-Kovács Edina.

The village heritage house, improved through successful grant applications, also works as a community space: it hosts craft workshops, children’s camps and voluntary community programmes, thereby preserving old traditions.
