Erdős Renée Ház

A museum collection presenting the local history, ethnography and literary heritage of Rákosmente, housed in an 1895 villa in District XVII.

Opening hoursAdmission HUF 1,000

About the museum

The listed villa was built in 1895 and bought in 1927 by the writer Erdős Renée, who lived there until 1944. Since 1990 a local history collection and a gallery have operated within its walls. Its predecessors were the Néprajzi Emlékház (Ethnographic Memorial House), opened in 1970 and closed in 1978 because of the construction of the housing estate, and the collection of the Helytörténeti Klub (Local History Club), founded at the end of the 1960s.

When the museum opened, a permanent local history exhibition, an ethnographic room section and a chamber exhibition of the Epress collection were set up on the ground floor; the writer's memorial room and a diorama exhibition on the wildlife of the Merzse marsh were also created. In 2000 the institution received its own professional management, and in 2005 a new local history and ethnography exhibition opened. Since December 2009, the Kőtár (lapidary) in a corner of the park has preserved the stone memorials of the old cemeteries and public spaces of Rákosmente.

On the upper floors, art and applied art exhibitions that change monthly are on view. Since 2011 the institution has been part of the Vigyázó Sándor Művelődési Ház (Vigyázó Sándor Cultural Centre).
