About the museum
The history of the Aeropark goes back about three decades: civil aviation enthusiasts ensured that at least one example of each key aircraft type of Hungarian air transport was preserved for posterity when it was withdrawn from service. Some of the aircraft were taken into the stock of the Közlekedési Múzeum (Transport Museum), but their restoration, preservation and presentation were carried out from the outset by civilian volunteers.
The operation of the Ferihegyi Repülőmúzeum (Ferihegy Aviation Museum) was taken over in May 2014 by the Légiközlekedési Kulturális Központ Közhasznú Nonprofit Kft. (Aviation Cultural Centre Non-profit Ltd.), which has also been organising airport visits since 2013. The museum stands beside Terminal 2B of the Liszt Ferenc International Airport. It receives about 100,000 visitors a year, which makes it one of the most visited exhibition venues in the country.
In the open-air collection, the last seven decades of Hungarian civil air transport can be traced, from the Li-2 through the Tu-134 and Tu-154 to the L-410, which is still in use today. Visitors can look into the cockpits of several aircraft, and the exhibition spaces reveal the workings of aircraft servicing, maintenance and air traffic control. In flight simulators, visitors can try flying an aircraft themselves, and they can also sign up for a bus tour of the airport areas that are closed to passengers.
