About the museum
The founder of the museum is ship captain Farkas Vince, who created the exhibition through decades of collecting and with objects he made himself. The exhibition opened on 12 July 1984 in Zebegény, in the founder’s own house, and it is regarded as the first private Hungarian shipping-history museum.
The exhibition presents the history of shipping, from the emergence of rafts and boats to the 19th-century tea clipper, together with ancient shipbuilding tools. The museum also shows where Hungarians sailed on the world’s seas and which cultures they came to know: alongside seafaring memorabilia, sea creatures and objects brought from distant lands can be seen.
