About the museum
The collection was set up on the initiative of an enlightened cooperative chairman, in a vacated office building, with the support of the county museum directorate and the people of Kiskunmajsa; it opened on 1 May 1981. Later the museum took the name of György Konecsni, a twice Kossuth Prize-winning artist. The exhibitions show traces of settlement from the Migration Period, a copy of the town charter of 1837, ethnographic objects of animal husbandry and farming, and the tools of old craftsmen. A separate display case holds the remains of an American bomber that made an emergency landing at Kígyóspuszta in 1945; among the wartime memorabilia are weapons and military identity papers. Objects of György Konecsni, tourism and advertising posters are displayed in wall cabinets and on flip-over panels.
