About the museum
The newest branch of the Szent István Király Múzeum opened in November 2023, in the immediate vicinity of the former coronation basilica of St Stephen. The investment of nearly HUF 4 billion was realised within the Árpád-ház Program and also saved the former Köztársaság Mozi (Republic Cinema) building. The visitor centre, linked to the Székesfehérvár National Memorial Site, presents its historical, social, geographical and architectural significance.
The building houses a lapidarium, an exhibition on the history of the basilica, a research institute and a visitor centre. The permanent exhibition Solium Regni presents the history of the Nagyboldogasszony Basilica (Basilica of the Assumption), the age of the foundation of the state and the era of St Stephen, based on the results of scientific excavations; it is also the venue for temporary exhibitions, concerts and conferences.
