About the museum
The late Baroque Lamberg Castle was built by Count Lamberg Ferenc Antal as the summer residence of his family, to plans by Fellner Jakab; construction was completed in 1766. In 1803 the spring of the castle park was reshaped and the garden was turned into an English park. The earthquake of 1810 severely damaged the building, so large parts of its two side wings had to be rebuilt. The main building and the outbuildings were each connected by a covered corridor, forming an enclosed courtyard.
The building was originally decorated with rich wall painting; the fragments uncovered attest to fine late Baroque work. Today traces of the wall painting can be seen on the wall of the former ladies’ salon next to the reading room, and in the ground-floor Baroque room a restored wall painting can be viewed.
The castle houses the Lamberg-kastély Művelődési Központ, Könyvtár és Muzeális Kiállítóhely (Lamberg Castle Cultural Centre, Library and Museum Venue). The permanent exhibition – the Móri Emléktár és Művészeti Kiállítás (Mór Memorial Collection and Art Exhibition) – includes the Baroque room, a local history collection presenting the past of Mór, the Wekerle Sándor exhibition and the Swabian heritage house. The exhibitions can be visited only by guided tour.
