About the museum
The Meggyes inn was built in the last decades of the 17th century at the foot of the mound of the same name, which marks the boundary between Tiszafüred and Kócs. The burned-down inn was rebuilt by the town council of Tiszafüred between 1760 and 1770. In 1902 it was bought by the herdsman accountant (kondás számadó) Czinege János. Built along the former salt road and later located far from the main road, the inn was the night meeting point of the gendarme patrols of Füred, Ohat and Egyek, and a bandit (betyár) story is also connected with it. Its operating licence was withdrawn in 1952, after which it became a warehouse of the state farm. The Hortobágy National Park Directorate renovated it in 1975 and turned it into a museum; the three rooms recall inn life at the turn of the century.
