About the museum
The settlement-ethnographic special feature of Tiszacsege is its double-core structure (kétbeltelkesség): until the middle of the last century the groups of houses were separated from the farmstead yards (szálláskert) that performed the role of economic courtyards and encircled the houses standing in the inner core like an outer ring. In the 18th century the tüzelős-ól was part of the szálláskert; the peasants of Csege kept their livestock, mainly cattle, in these stables. The stables had mostly wattle or reed walls, and their roofs were beetle-backed, covered with earth, straw and grass.
The tüzelős-ól was bought by the local municipality from its former owner in 1997, and then restored from local and county sources on the basis of research by the ethnographer Papp József: the walls, the roof structure and the reed thatching were renewed; in the interior, the firing and lying-down benches, the manger (jászol) and the hídlás were restored; the wooden well frame (kávája) and the well-sweep (gém) of the old well were kept, and the fence was replaced with woven hedging. Today it is the venue of numerous events.
