About the museum
Molnár-C. Pál (1894–1981), painter and graphic artist, was born in Battonya-Tompapuszta. His mother, Jeanne Contat, came to Battonya from Switzerland, where she worked as a French teacher for a landowning family and later became the wife of an estate official. The artist was a significant Hungarian representative of Neo-Classicism; some three thousand five hundred works were created during his lifetime, and his works reached many collections in Europe.
At the age of 85 Molnár-C. Pál decided to donate some of his works to his home town, Battonya. The memorial house opened on 23 September 1984, and since then it has kept the paintings and graphics donated to the town on permanent display.
The town of Battonya renovated the building inside and out in 2005 and re-arranged the exhibition assembled from the estate. The display includes forty-four oil paintings, twenty-one graphics and a series of woodcuts, offering a selection of works devoted to the artist’s different periods and styles.
