About the museum
The Sportmúzeum in Makó opened on 31 December 2004 as the closing event of the Year of Sport. The collection is in two rooms on the second floor of the Pénzügyi palota (Finance Palace) building.
The exhibition presents the memorabilia of roughly the last hundred years of sporting life in Makó: the medals, cups and certificates of local athletes and clubs, as well as the archive of sporting news of the region. Special memorabilia preserve the legacies of the boxer Erdei János, the hurdler and long jumper Wittenberger Magdolna, and the silver medallist of the handball world championship, Szabó László.
The collection is looked after by the chairman of the Makó municipal sports committee in office.
