About the museum
The Ózdi Muzeális Gyűjtemény has been housed since 1994 in the listed building of the former Gyári Iskola (Factory School), built in 1895. The institution was established in 1971 as an industrial history display, and its collecting scope was later extended to the entire cultural and historical heritage of the town and its surroundings. Since 2007 it has been an affiliated institution of the Ózdi Művelődési Intézmények (Ózd Cultural Institutions).
Among the permanent exhibitions, the Ózd industrial history display presents the history of the ironworks with models and documents; further exhibitions deal with the technical history of steel production, energy supply, mining, the history of education and sport, archaeology and minerals, ethnography, fine arts and the way of life of the workers. The archaeological material includes the four-thousand-year-old human-shaped urn from Centeri.
The Gyártörténeti Emlékpark (Industrial History Memorial Park) surrounding the museum is an open-air exhibition site: former factory machines can be seen there, including a steam locomotive from 1898, rolling mill stands and a steam engine manufactured in 1890.
