About the museum
A pharmacy has operated in the Patika-ház building since the middle of the 17th century, from 1696 under the name “Angyal patika” (Angel Pharmacy). The cabinets and beautiful vessels of the exhibition, in the old dispensing room, date from the 19th century.
Visitors can get to know the old tools of drug preparation, the healing methods of folk medicine and material memorabilia. Gensel Ádám, the powdered-wig polymath and pioneer of today's medical meteorology, also appears in the exhibition; especially beautiful are the rare medical and pharmaceutical books from the 16th and 17th centuries.
The Patika-ház is a seasonally open exhibition site of the Soproni Múzeum (Sopron Museum); the collection is the country's first pharmaceutical museum.
