About the museum
The Pék-ház stands in the Poncichter quarter of Sopron, where a bakery had operated since the 17th century. After the death of the last owner, in 1972 the town bought the building together with its complete furnishings, so the museum gives a particularly authentic picture of the old baker’s trade.
In the right wing are the bakery, the bread shop and the confectionery. On the left of the vaulted gateway lived the baker’s family; the kitchen and the two small rooms present the way of life of a late-19th-century artisan and burgher family. The confectionery recalls the atmosphere of a small town at the turn of the 20th century. The house is run by the Soproni Múzeum.
