About the museum
The park is surrounded by ditches and a wattle palisade; at the entrance stands a three-storey wooden tower from which the whole area can be seen. The visitor centre has a lecture hall and an exhibition hall. The display panels show how the nomadic and semi-nomadic Sarmatians arrived in central Europe from the Lower Volga and the southern Urals, how they appeared in the Carpathian Basin in the 1st century, and then populated the Great Plain (Alföld).
In the park, reconstructions of four units from the 4th–5th centuries, consisting of houses and the associated farm buildings, have been completed on the basis of archaeological excavations and ethnographic analogies, using period technology and materials. At the partly or fully sunken buildings, visitors can learn which crops the Sarmatians grew, which animals they kept, how they processed food and what their craftsmanship was like. The park also has an educational trail of almost four hundred metres.
