About the museum
The Kakuszi collection of stamped bricks currently contains about 5,000 variants of some 3,500 types of brick marks, of which nearly 300 fine stamped bricks are on display. The material on show includes several rarities: fluted bricks, bricks of noble families and church leaders, dated bricks of castle captains, and bricks with animal figures.
Particularly notable are, for example, the small floor brick with a ligature inscription of Erdődy Gábor Antal, bishop of Eger, from the late 1710s; the large monogrammed floor brick of Bádeni Lajos Vilmos, margrave known as the “Turk-beater”, from around 1706; and the monogrammed wall brick of Count Raimondo Montecuccoli from 1671. A few pieces from the turn-of-the-century Kelheim lithographs of the Stephane Hart collection in Budapest are also on display, and beyond the brick collection there are around 180 inscribed Hungarian beer bottles, 100–130 years old.
