About the museum
A fire brigade was established in Mosonmagyaróvár in 1876 and has been protecting the residents of the town and the surrounding area ever since, without interruption. The Fire Museum was opened in 1991, on the 115th anniversary of the founding of the town’s fire brigade, and was set up by the town’s firefighters.
The museum is located in two exhibition rooms of the fire station building. A permanent display of written and object memorabilia presents the history of firefighting and the development of firefighting equipment. Guided tours are provided by firefighters.
The exhibition is cared for and developed by the Mosonmagyaróvári Önkéntes Tűzoltó Hagyományőrző Egyesület (Mosonmagyaróvár Volunteer Fire Brigade Heritage Association), founded in 2014 by professional firefighters, whose aim is to preserve local firefighting traditions and to make the work of firefighters better known.
