About the museum
The Lámpamúzeum (Lamp Museum) came into being from the persistent collecting work of Borus Ferenc. The collector bought the finest pieces with his own money and restored the often dirty, rusty, incomplete objects himself. The first permanent exhibition, of about 250 objects, was set up in the cultural centre in 1970.
The collection soon outgrew the small room of the cultural centre, so in 1979 the museum opened in the 19th-century peasant house at Magyar utca 18, which the local leadership had bought to present the collection.
Today the museum displays 1,000–1,100 lighting objects, from masterfully delicate Chinese and Meissen porcelain lamps to simple railway light sources and oil lamps. In 1995 the collection entered the Guinness Book of Records; in 1980 it was admitted to the American International Lamp Club, and in 1983 its members elected it to the Australian Museum Society.
