About the museum
The Antiquarium comunale di Irgoli is housed in the historic town hall building on via San Michele and spreads over two floors. The exhibition traces the history of the area from the Late Neolithic to the Middle Ages, with the help of explanatory panels, plans and iconographic reproductions.
The collections include surface finds and material from recent excavations at the Nuragic sanctuaries of Janna 'e Pruna and Su Notante. On display are tools for farm work, such as bronze axes, millstones and chisels, vessel forms that document the development of pottery, objects from metalworking and household activities, such as spindle whorls and weaving bobbins, and finds linked to religious and funerary life.
One part of the museum is devoted to the rock engravings found in the municipal territory, at places such as Othierie, along the Irgoli–Capo Comino road, and Lucchiddo, near the road to Norghio.
