About the museum
The museum is housed in a building that was the residence of the Guiso noble family and later the barracks of the Royal Carabinieri. It was inaugurated in 2000, when Don Nanni Guiso donated the building and the collection to his native town, Orosei. In Orosei the founder is still simply remembered as Don Nanni.
The collection arises from a passion for the theatre: it includes antique toy theatres from all over Europe, with proscenium arches, lights and scenery, as well as dioramas and toy theatres. Alongside the toy theatres, the founder also put props, lights, scenery and dioramas at the disposal of the community.
Alongside the toy theatres the museum displays graphic works by international artists, drawings of the Scuola romana from 1930–1945, antique and rare books on Sardinia, clothes and costumes from 1880 to the present, and works of Sienese art.
