About the museum
The Antiquarium di Palinuro, a hamlet of the municipality of Centola, holds finds from prehistory to the Hellenistic age from the territory and sea of Palinuro.
The prehistoric section includes obsidian tools around six thousand years old, from a settlement discovered in 1983. The grave goods of an archaic necropolis are also displayed, with Ionian-type pottery, Attic black-figure pottery and local geometric pottery from the Vallo di Diano; some of the local vessels held water or food, others contained the ashes of the dead.
Part of the collection consists of material recovered from numerous Hellenistic-era wrecks sunk along the coast of Palinuro.
