About the museum
The Museo diocesano di Vallo della Lucania was founded on the wish of Bishop Giuseppe Casale, with the aim of protecting church property recovered from places of worship after the earthquake of 1980. It is housed on the first floor of the diocesan seminary.
The collections include polyptychs, among them the Transfiguration of Torchiara (1577) and that of Laurino (1482), paintings such as the Redeemer between Saint Anthony Abbot and Saint Bernardino by Decio Tramontano (1560) and an Annunciation by Girolamo Siciliano (1577), as well as a wooden Saint Philadelphus of Byzantine inspiration.
Also on display are the wedding casket linked to the Embriachi workshop, the silver chalice of San Silvestro, attributed to a 14th-century Sienese goldsmith, and liturgical vestments from the 17th to 19th centuries. The route is organized into the sections Polyptychs, Stations of the Cross and paintings, Liturgical art, and Education and restoration.
